Vehicle Equipment List

NOTE: The following are equipment considerations to ensure you & your vehicle are prepared for various details.

REQUIRED Equipment:

·         Current Driver’s License

·         Current Vehicle Registration

·         Proof of Insurance

·         MCSO Letter of Authorization for Emergency Equipment

·         MCSO Channel 8 Radio (VHF mobile or portable)

·         Emergency Lights and Siren

·         Traffic Vest

·         Tow Strap

·         Fire Extinguisher

·         First Aid Kit (see list for contents)

·         Shovel

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Equipment:

·         MCSO 800mhz Radio

·         City Street Maps and Topographical Maps of County

·         Compass and/or GPS

·         Road Flares (about 20)

·         Traffic Cones (about 10)

·         Sheriff’s Line Marker Tape (1 roll)

·         Spotlight (handheld or vehicle mount)

·         Flashlight with traffic wand

·         Jumper Cables

·         Fix-a-flat (several cans)

·         Basic Tool Kit (see list for contents)

·         Work Gloves (leather)

·         Axe or wood saw

·         Water Proof Matches

·         Water (1 gallon per person per day)

·         Spare vehicle key

SUGGESTED Equipment:

(Especially for searches or long duration details)

·         Hi-Lift Jack & Accessories

·         12 volt air compressor

·         Throw Bag or Rope (75’)

·         Change of Clothes/Uniform

·         Rain and/or Cold Weather Gear (as climate suggests)

·         Rifle or Shotgun (if MCSO qualified and as detail suggests)

·         Any necessary Medications

·         Food (high energy type)

·         Sleeping Bag or Blanket

·         5x9 Abdominal Pads (sterile)

·         8x10 Abdominal Pads (sterile)

·         10x30 Trauma Dressing (sterile)

·         Burn Blanket (sterile)

·         3” Cling (non-sterile)

·         4x4’s (non-sterile)

·         Triangular Bandage

·         Band-Aids (flex fabric, assorted sizes)

·         2” Tape (non-porous)

·         Hydrogen Peroxide (16oz)

·         Sterile Water (saline solution, 500ml –1000ml)

·         Eye Wash (4-8oz)

·         5x8 Instant Ice Pack

·         Antiseptic Wipes (individual packets)

·         Aspirin Tablets (and we mean ASPIRIN)

·         Table Sugar packets ( and we mean SUGAR)

·         Antacid tablets (Tums, etc)

NOTE:  Depending on your vehicle, you may need STANDARD, METRIC, or BOTH sizes.  Buy a name brand.

BASIC Equipment:

·         3/8’ Socket Set: include ratchet, 3” & 6” extensions, flex joint, regular & deep sockets

·         Combination End Wrenches (1 end box, 1 end open)

·         Adjustable Wrenches (“Crescent” type, 1 medium, 1 large)

·         Screw Drivers: Regular & Philips (assorted sizes)

·         Pliers: Slip Joint & Vise Grip & Wire Cutters

·         Hammer: Ball Peen (large size)

·         Work Light that attaches to battery or cigarette lighter

SPARE Parts:

·         Duct Tape (1 roll)

·         Electrical Tape (1 roll)

·         Hose Clamps (assorted sizes)
