Believe it or not one of the most important activities you will conduct as a Posse Member will be traffic control. Whether it is at an accident scene, a sports event, a motorcycle run, or simply because the light signals have gone out in an intersection, the safety of all people (pedestrians and drivers alike) is in your hands. It’s now your intersection. TAKE CHARGE!
As members of the Sheriff’s Posse, everyone is trained in traffic control. This duty carries a lot of responsibility. Safety is paramount, especially yours. Two important tools you must always have while conducting traffic control are your Whistle and Traffic Vest. They may very well save your life.
The Jeep Posse is frequently called upon to assist in charity motorcycle runs. We close down intersections with lights and siren, direct traffic around intersections and man road barricades. We are also often called out for road closures during the rainy season.
While working in a district, one of the best ways we can assist deputies is by directing traffic safely around an accident scene. This allows the deputies to feel safe in their environment and helps to expedite their accident investigation. This also helps by keeping one more deputy on patrol instead of spending their time directing traffic.
